Dear all WOMBEC invited lecturers, participants, and fans,
We are sorry to inform you that after postponing it twice we are forced to cancel the event entirely. We are not doing so lightly. We have invested significantly in this dream - time and money, planning, networking, and a lot of creative effort.
We haven't been able to attract enough participants. There seems to be a combination of reasons:
Location. Although the Czech Republic offers outstanding riding, we run a very good MTB education program and the venue represents a phenomenal example of sustainable MTB development, we may be perceived as peripheral.
Resources and skill. Above all, we have learned the hard way that we are severely understaffed for a project of this magnitude and complexity.
Timing - we assumed that the time was ripe for the MTB education community to naturally welcome an opportunity to connect, share and benefit from it. That we kick it off and the snowball effect will materialize organically. It seems the need hasn't become significant enough yet.
Reach. Today, the main challenge is to be properly noticed in the ever increasing number of things competing for the community members' attention. Although we work hard on our weak spots, we are educators, not influencers.
That all reflected, we don't want to just give up. We are in the process of exploring possibilities of joining forces with internationally established institutions. We are prepared to contribute all the work we have put into the WOMBEC. The result should be an event firmly grounded in the MTB education community. Hopefully this will get the snowball rolling.
The congress, where you will spend more time on the bike than on the chair, will bring MTB instructors and coaches from Europe and overseas to the trails of Rychlebské stezky. Colleagues from different schools will share their experience and know-how through workshops on the trail. For four days you can ride, watch or share your ideas with others yourself. Have fun with colleagues and new friends from a range of countries, who have different approaches to teaching but are united by their love of MTB.
What does the WOMBEC have to offer to you and
what can you offer to the WOMBEC?
Ride, share, and learn
Present what you do and learn what others do through workshops and trail sessions. Contribute and benefit from healthy diversity.
Talk it through
Discuss important, interesting, or just fun topics with other educators during formal and informal meetings.
